Missouri American Water Issues Precautionary Boil Water Advisory in Wildwood

Residents Advised to Boil Water for Consumption Following Operational Issues

Missouri American Water has announced a precautionary boil water advisory for the Wildwood area, effective from 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, due to operational challenges at its water treatment facility.

The advisory encompasses several key locations, including Lafayette High School, St. Louis Community College-Wildwood, and the Wildwood YMCA. Residents in these areas are urged to boil water intended for drinking or cooking for at least three minutes to ensure safety.

According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a boil water advisory is a precautionary measure taken when there's a potential issue with the drinking water supply, though contamination hasn't been confirmed. Such advisories are typically issued following events like low water pressure or main breaks, pending test results.

For non-consumable uses such as bathing and washing, tap water remains safe. However, it's essential to avoid ingesting unboiled water during this period.

In response to the advisory, the Rockwood School District has implemented measures to ensure student and staff safety. Schools within the affected area, including Green Pines Elementary, Lafayette High, Babler Elementary, Pond Elementary, Wildwood Middle, and Fairway Elementary, have received bottled water. Additionally, meal preparations have been adjusted, with water used for washing fresh produce being boiled and cooled beforehand.

Landlords with properties in the impacted zones are encouraged to inform their tenants about the advisory to ensure widespread awareness and compliance.

Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels for notifications regarding the status of the advisory and any further instructions.
